WILMORE, Ky. -- The 4th Annual Next Up Recruits Camp featured a ton of talent and a great day of skill development and competitive games. With some of the top players in the country in attendance, as well as many national media members, it was once again one of the top exposure camps in the country. 180 players from the classes of 2019-2022 went to battle and it made for a fun an exciting day of basketball.

As follows are some of the top players our camp staff evaluated throughout the day:

JT Thor – 2021 F – Huntington Prep (WV)
Possibly the most skilled player in the gym, JT has really improved over the last few months. After seeing him in the fall at our camp in Ohio, he really has started to gain fluidity and show off his high skill level. Thor was unstoppable in the mid-range all day and his size allows him to shoot over the defenders for easy buckets. His length is a factor on both ends of the floor as he can block and contest shots, as well as finish around the defense and at the rim. California recently became the first school to offer and many more offers are ahead for one of the top players in the class of 2021.

Jaemyn Brakefield – 2020 F – Huntington Prep (WV)
It didn’t take long to see that Jaemyn was on another talent level from almost everyone in the gym. The consensus 5-star prospect brings a high level of offensive versatility to the floor. At 6’9, he can handle the ball, score at all 3 levels, and has good vision in the halfcourt. He holds offers from Kansas, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, West Virginia, Xavier, UCLA, and Alabama among others, with heavy interest coming from Duke and Kentucky. He’s got a good chance to be a McDonald’s All-American when that time comes.

CJ Meredith – 2020 Guard/Wing – Spring Valley (WV)
We were expecting big things from CJ coming into camp after a strong spring in AAU and he did not disappoint. The 6’5 guard is very skilled and can play above the rim in transition. He hit multiple pullup jumpers and overall has a smooth game. Our staff thinks he is a sleeper in the 2020 class and as he fills out his body, watch out as he can really score the ball. West Virginia Wesleyan is the only school to offer thus far.

Ike Herster – 2020 G/F – Kennedy Catholic (PA)
After a spring in which he shot the ball really well, that trend continued during camp. Following the opening game in which he hit 9 3s, Ike finished the day hitting seemingly every shot he took. As he continues to improve his handle and ability to attack while facing up, he can become a really tough matchup on the floor. Stony Brook and Robert Morris have offered and it would not surprise us to see more schools jump in to the mix following a strong July.

Obinna Anochili-Killen – 2020 F – Chapmanville (WV)
One of the top overall prospects in the state of West Virginia, Obinna did not do anything to change that notion at camp. He is a highly skilled forward that can play as an anchor on defense but has the mobility to switch out and stay in from of guards. He has been working on his jumper and showed the ability to step out and knock down some 3s. If his frame fills out, he is a kid high major schools will come running to see.

Jordan Nicely  - 2019 G – Hurricane (WV)
Had a good day scoring the basketball, this guard possesses a tight handle and can score the ball in a variety of ways. His jumpshot is smooth and he is most comfortable hitting shots from the mid range and out. Jordan has a nice pullup that he creates space with.

Dante Spadefora – 2021 PG – OLSH (PA)
Throughout the day, the coaches working the camp could not stop talking about how much they liked Dante’s game. His strong upper body allows him to finish through contact and drives. He is a maestro in the pick and roll, killing the defense with his shot or making plays for others. He had a really good spring on the Adidas circuit and played just as good at camp.

Rodrell Dryden – 2020 G – Paul Laurence Dunbar (KY)
A raw and athletic wing, Rodrell really impressed when he got to handle the ball, showing an ability to make plays for his teammate and drive into the paint with ease. His jumpshot is still coming along, but he scored on drives and hit teammates for easy 3s. In an interesting 2020 class in Kentucky, Rodrell has started to make a name for himself.

Dayvion McKnight - 2020 PG - Martha Layne Collins (KY)
Strong lefty bully PG with a tight handle and makes plays for others. McKnight is a lockdown on ball defender with great lengthy 6’5 wingspan. He is best when attacking but is a very capable jump shot that continues to improve. Made the top 40 all star game. 

Isaiah Wilson - 2020 PG - First Love Christian Academy (PA)
Playing with a lot more confidence after a strong spring on the circuit with All-Ohio Red, Isaiah looked really good throughout the day. He pushed the ball in transition, as he likes to play at a fast pace where he can carve up the defense. It was easy for Isaiah to get into the lane and either find teammates or finish for himself. As his body fills out, he is going to be a really tough player to stay in front of. 

Praise Chukwudozie-Fisher – 2021 F – North Marion (WV)
Didn’t have the best day in terms of scoring but it’s easy to see that Praise has potential to be good down the road. He’s got a great frame and can handle the ball at 6’6. He is raw and will need some development, but the talent is there.

Mattia Acunzo – 2019 F – Kennedy Catholic (PA)
Getting to see Mattia in a new setting was a good thing as he got to have the ball in his hands a little more than usual. He was very aggressive from the jump, finishing through contact and showing an aggressive motor on the glass. The Italian import is a skilled forward with a high basketball IQ that just gets the job done. He has started to rack up mid-major offers and with a strong July, only more will come.

Jamison Epps – 2020 F – Marion County (KY)
This forward had a really good day at camp, securing a spot for himself in the top 40 all star game. He is a thick, but versatile, post player who knows how to use his body to be successful. He can face up and attack the basket or rebound the ball and score in the paint. He gets the job done and is a player who help your team win games.

McKinley Mann  - 2019 C – James Monroe (WV)
After a good spring in which he got to run with a talent MATTS Mustangs 17U squad, McKinley looked good in this setting. He runs the floor well and can finish around the rim, but can also hit some shots with his feet set. As his skill level develops, he could turn into a very good player.

Ryan Kalkbrenner – 2020 C – St. Louis Trinity Catholic (MO)
Among a really good group of big men in the gym, Ryan was one of the best and his upside was on full display. He ran the floor and finished at the basket in transition. Defensively, he showed off his great timing and ability to protect the rim.  Not to mention, he has the ability to step out and hit shots with soft touch on his jumpshot. This young man is one of the top shot blockers in the class of 2020 and with 2 more years of development, college coaches will be flocking to see him play.

Zach Loveday – 2020 C – Gallia Academy (OH)
By far the most unique player in the gym, Zach stands at 7’0 but has an off the charts skill level. He is a great passer no matter where you put him on the floor and also has the ability to step out and hit 3s with his feet set. Regarded as the top 2020 prospect in the state of Ohio, he holds offers from schools such as Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana, Florida, Xavier, and Stanford.

Jordan Graham – 2019 PG – George Rogers Clark (KY)
One of the biggest risers of the spring in Kentucky, Jordan came into camp and did his thing. He’s hard to stop getting to the paint and has a strong frame for a point guard. What stands out most is his toughness and ability to score or pass in the paint. Tennessee Tech has offered and we wouldn’t be surprised to see more offer soon.

DeAjuan Stepp – 2021 G – West Jessamine (KY)
Stepp has been coming to #NextUp camps since he was a rising 8th grader, and since then, his body has began to fill out and his jumpshot has improved. He is one of the best guards in Kentucky in 2021 and just produces when he’s on the floor. DeAjuan is a player coaches need to note and track as he continues to develop.

Jett Roesing- 2020 SG – Sewickley Academy (PA)
This young guard came into camp with a reputation as a shooter and he proved that to be true quickly during the day. However, we were impressed with his ability to finish through contact and put the ball on the floor at times. He is a knockdown shooter but as his overall game expands, he will be a tough guard to cover. Central Connecticut State has offered.

Christopher Monson – 2019 PG – Rossview (TN)
One of the biggest surprises of the day, we came away really impressed with Monson’s ability to control the pace of the game as well his production. He is a thick bodied guard that is a good decision maker with some scoring touch as well. Wherever he ends up will be getting a player who can make his teammates better. He’s got interest from a couple division 2 schools, but his recruitment does not match his game. 

Jayden Taylor – 2021 G – Perry Meridian (IN)
Our staff had not seen Jayden prior to camp but he left an impression in a big way before the day was done. He has a smooth game and can get buckets in a variety of ways. At times he settles too much but otherwise he is an impressive prospect for a rising sophomore and is one of the top players in his class in Indiana.

Marcellus Vail 2020 SG – Martha Layne Collins (KY)
This guard had a good day because of his toughness and ability to stroke the 3 ball. You absolutely cannot lose him on the perimeter or he will knock down shots and as a result, force the defense to play him tightly. He impressed the camp staff with his motor and ability to rebound on the offensive glass.

Naim Miller – 2019 G – First Love Christian (PA)
This strong guard put together a tough performance with a combination of getting to the rack through the teeth of the defense and hitting pull-up jumpers inside the arc. He can shoot the ball from deep and is a solid player. He will be back at First Love Christian after spending last year at Beckley Prep.

Devin Collins – 2019 F – Chapmanville (WV)
Physically, Devin still needs to fill out, but he’s got a high skill level and ability to shoot from the perimeter. However, he’s got big upside and with a redshirt year coupled with a college weight program there’s a chance he turns out to be a pretty good player. West Virginia Wesleyan is among the schools recruiting him.

Joe Meador – 2020 F – Franklin County (KY)
Despite not having played much varsity ball to date, Joe had a great day and established himself as a nice prospect going forward. He’s a bouncy forward with the ability to step out and hit shots from the perimeter. AS he gets older, his frame will fill out and he should develop into a nice player.

Ethan Brook - 2019 C – Walton-Verona (KY)
A player we had not seen much coming in to the event, Ethan had a strong showing. He moves well for his size and build at 6’8, and can handle the ball a little bit as he pushed the ball after crashing the defensive glass. He is a guy who D1s and D2s should put their eyes on as his overall game makes him a solid prospect.

Jamier Fletcher - 2019 PF - First Love Christian (PA)
A bruiser in the paint and rebounds the ball at a high level outside of his area. He has a college ready body now and knows how to use it to get position and finish through tough physical contact. His range was out to 15ft and he played above the rim. He struggles with stamina and needs to get in shape but when he was energized he ran the floor well and made plays on the run in transition. 

Juanya Frank - 2019 G - Frankfort (KY)
A very skilled lead guard and has a crafty gift to dance with the ball. He showed his vision and passing ability some. Not as much as we would have liked but he can do it. He was more comfortable making plays with the ball in his hands for himself like a combo guard. His shot was fairly consistent in the mid-range area and he did make a few deep outside shots. His strength is slashing and probing in attack mode. 

JJ Eubank - 2019 SG - First Love Christian (PA)
A high level shooter. He was very consistent beyond the arc and could put the ball on the floor on closeouts and make plays off two dribble pull-ups and finishing at the rim. He was a solid defender also. Could make a really nice 3 and D guy who can develop his handle and become a threat off the bounce too.

JJ Traynor - 2020 F - Bardstown (KY)
A long athletic stretch 4 type of player that can pull his defender out beyond the arc take him off the bounce or cash in the long ball. When he puts it on the floor he sees the game and he can pass it well. Traynor is bouncy with a quick second bounce and with his long arms collects rebounds at a high rate. His consistent finishes are with both hands around the rim, dunks, and a jumper out to 15ft. 

CeArius Warren - 2021 G/F - Louisville Southern (KY) 
A big strong body young prospect that is oozing with potential. His handle is a little bit away from being clean but he can already put together nice sequences from the perimeter off the bounce to get by defenders. His body allows him to bang to the rim through all types of contact. He is an elite level athlete now. He can make shots from all over just not at a real consistent rate from outside. The younger brother of former Louisville player Chane Behanan.

Isaiah Cozart - 2019 C - Madison Central (KY)
He was very impressive protecting his house. His timing to block shots was almost perfect anytime he was challenged. His ability to rebound the ball is really high. He has a college ready body and is far from finishing developing. He showed an improved post game and his paint presence shooting the ball has increased. 

Devin Cambridge - 2019 G - Hillcrest Prep (AZ)
He played like a very elite level guard. All I heard was “This kid can’t shoot” the whole time before seeing him and I came away very impressed with his ability to shoot at all levels. He was a walking highlight reel because his athleticism is off the charts but watching him catch n shoot, create n shoot off the bounce, and spot up in transition sold us.

Aden Slone - 2022 PG - Boyle County (KY)
He was the only young guy to make the final all-star game at camp. He was very impressive and fearless on the ball. The way he had control of his handles was dazzling but very effective. He made play after play against the older guys. His vision and passing was really high level and will only get better. He was dangerous making his own shots which made it easier for him to create open looks for his teammates. 

Kyle Stivers - 2019 G - Franklin County (KY)
After getting in the flow he was good off the bounce at beating his man to the basket and he made good passes when he couldn’t finish. He played with really good energy on both ends of the floor doing the little things on defense that helps teams win. What was really impressive about him was the way he shot the ball from deep. He was always set and ready to let it fly and for good reason. He didn’t miss many. Stivers isn’t going to wow you with special athleticism or slick dribbling moves but he will catch your eye as a player that is in the right place and makes the right play for his team to win. 

Deshawn Jackson - 2021 G - Fredrick Douglass (KY)
He is a young player that has shown he has the whole package on the offensive side of the ball. He doesn’t play above the rim yet but he can score it from all over the court. He can play on or off the ball and the results are the same. He sees plays in advance, he makes the right reads, and he creates open looks for him and his teammates. Right now he can guard 1-3 but I can see that extending to the 4 spot because he has a good frame and will only get stronger and more athletic in the coming years. 

Anthony Russell - 2019 Wing- Fern Creek (KY)
Russell a KY native who recently moved back from Atlanta,impressed our staff all day with his defensive ability and high energy playing style. He matched up with some of the higher ranked players at camp and forced a ton of turnovers. While his offensive skill set needs improvement, Russell still gets his share of points off fast breaks, put backs and steals. A former top ranked 8th grader in Kentucky we’re glad to have this talented young player back in the state.

Ethan Coury - 2019 Wing- Louisville Eastern HS
One of the top shooters at camp, Coury has good length and range out to the NBA 3 pt line. Playing AAU for THE VILLE this spring Coury began making a name for himself by taking over games with his outside shooting. While his ball handling and foot speed need improvement Coury has the size and scoring ability to develop into a mid-level d2 prospect.

Jaden Rogers - 2021 PG -Fern Creek HS
A true PG who sees the game one pass ahead, Rogers is an outstanding pick and roll player. While he has the ability to score in bunches, Rogers is at his best when attacking the basket and creating open shots for teammates. Rogers controls the tempo of the game at all times and handles defensive pressure with ease. While we would like to see him become more vocal on the court there is little doubt that Jaden is one of the top guards in the KY 2021 class and a future D1 prospect

Curt Lewis - 2019 CG - Aspire Academy Postgrad
One of the top 2018 players in KY Lewis recently decided on attending a postgraduate year at Aspire Academy in order to attempt to qualify. A strong and bouncy combo guard who is nearly impossible to stay in front of, Lewis was dominant at camp scoring the ball at all 3 levels and finishing with explosive dunks. If Lewis defensive effort ever come close to matching his killer instinct offensively then he immediately becomes a MM+ prospect.

Trey James - 2021 C - Sheldon Clark (KY)
An offensively skilled 6’10 throwback big, James can score off of a variety of post moves but also is a consistent pick and pop threat out to the college 3 pt. line. James lateral quickness has improved tremendously over the last year and while he still lacks lift his skill level and physicality make him a high major prospect.

KJ Crump - 2021 PG -University Heights (KY)
A crafty PG with a relentless playing style, good luck to any defender trying to stay in front of this young man. A quick 1st step and outstanding handle keep defenders on their heels but it’s his decision making that sets Crump apart from the other guards in his class. Teaming at University Heights with Mr. Basketball candidate KyKy Tandy there is no doubt that college coaches will soon have Crump on their radar.

Walter Johnson - 2019 SG-Louisville Ballard
One of the top 3 pt shooters in the state of KY Johnson has settled in at Ballard HS after finishing last season at Louisville prep school Aspire Academy. While not possessing great quickness or athleticism Johnson has deep 3 pt range, soft touch and a trigger quick release. We fully anticipate Johnson to take advantage of his opportunity at Ballard and become one of leading scorers in the state this year

Dieonte Miles - 2019 PF -Walton Verona (KY)
A 6’10 bouncy shot blocker Miles plays with great energy and has the ability to defend positions 3-5. An improving outside shooter with a smooth lefty stroke, Miles impressed us at camp with is ability to stretch the floor. If he can stay healthy and get stronger our staff believes that Miles has high-major potential.

TJ Montgomery - 2020 PG- Jackson Academy (MS)
No doubt the toughest competitor at our camp, Montgomery was relentless on both ends of the court making life tough for opposing point guards. While his jump shot needs improvement, Montgomery is constantly in attack mode and is super fast in the open court. Do not let the size fool you, TJ Montgomery is a coach’s dream who will be a steal for someone at the next level

Dieontae Branch - 2019 PG -Louisville Moore HS
A strong built bulldog PG Branch impressed us with his ability to get hot from the outside, knocking down six 3’s in his final game of the day. Branch has the size and athleticism to become a lockdown defender and is also a good rebounder for a 6’0 guard. Branch is the son of for New England Patriots WR Deion Branch

Jamel King - 2020 SG - Paul Bryant HS (AL)
A skilled 6’6 scorer with a huge wingspan, King is a potential top 75prospect nationally in the 2020 class. King gets great elevation on his jump shot and is a consistent scorer from all 3 levels. Also a tremendous athlete,King has a great pace to his game and stays in control at all times. With his length and offensive skill set King is a can’t miss high-major player.
