2019 G/F Michael Moreno

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- We've been watching 2019 Scott County (KY) Michael Moreno since he was in 8th grade. He's progressed from a big body to a high IQ center to a stretch forward to a versatile offensive threat. It's obvious from his game that he works hard to get better. Playing under legendary Kentucky high school coach Billy Hicks, Mike has evolved into a player that's hard to matchup with defensively.

He led Scott County to a 31-6 season as a sophomore, averaging 21.8 PPG and 10.0 rebounds per game. They fell in the state semifinals to the eventual champs, Bowling Green. With Mike at the helm and a talented supporting cast returning, Scott County will enter next season as the favorites to win the Kentucky Sweet 16.

He is a knockdown shooter from the outside with his feet set, and also excels with the shot fake. His handle has improved to the point where he can rebound and go end-to-end. Mike is a high IQ player who picks his spots well and can finish in a variety of ways and angles. What sets him apart offensively however, is his relentlessness and understanding of how to rebound.

He can improve defensively, while continuing to shape and improve his body. "I need to work on ball handling and getting quicker. Getting more athletic as well." With the way he's improved over the last 2 years, it's hard to see him not getting there.

Iowa just recently became the first high major school to offer the swingman, joining IUPUI and Bradley as programs who have offered. Interest is coming in from Butler, Northwestern, Creighton, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Xavier, and WKU. His offensive skillset will make him very attractive to these schools in July.

With a loaded team, Mike's Indiana Elite squad has been one of the best 16U teams in the country so far this spring. They won their division in Dallas, and then winning their division in Atlanta. IE 2019 plays like the 16U Spurs, and the versatile swingman's game fits right in. Moreno has his sights set on more.

"My goal to win the Gauntlet Finals in Spartanburg & win the Adidas Summer Championship.. I want to gain more offers too. They go hand in hand."
