LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- We first saw 2019 Louisville Trinity (KY) G David Johnson as a true freshman starting in the 2016 KY Sweet 16. A few months later we were at the Kentucky AAU state tournament and he was head and shoulders the best 2019 talent in the gym.

Under the watch of one of the best coaches in the state, Trinity’s Mike Szabo, David has grown to be a great player. He averaged 10.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and multiple assists per game on a team where no one player dominates the ball. Trinity went 29-4 and fell just short of a state tournament birth. He will be the leader for Trinity as they will be among the best teams in the state as long as David Johnson takes the floor for them.

This long guard is a highly skilled player with exceptional passing skills and court vision. David has good athleticism and length, which could allow him to become a elite defender. He is a good mid-range scorer and his 3 ball has improved tremendously. We could see him becoming a PG down the road as his ball handling improves. The big guard has a ton of upside.

After a great showing in Dallas, as his Louisville Magic team won their division of the Adidas 16U Gold Tournament, he was offered by Louisville, Xavier, and Cincinnati. Those will be the first of many offers to come, as Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Stanford, Western Kentucky, Virginia, and Butler are among the other schools showing interest.

When we asked him about his new offers, David said, “It’s unreal. It’s great because it’s my first few offers. I know I have the capability of playing high level D1 basketball and my hard work is paying off.”

David will try to follow up his performance from last weekend, as his Louisville Magic team will head to Atlanta for the second live period. Ellis Myles has put together a loaded 2019 group that is among the best in the country for their age group.
