The Taylor County star discusses his recent commitment, improvements to his game

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The 2016 class in Kentucky is top heavy and the big dog at the top is without a doubt, is 6-foot-3 point guard Quentin Goodin. The Taylor County guard has held the top ranked spot in the state of Kentucky since he has been in HS.

On August 2, Goodin announced his commitment to Xavier. When we asked Goodin about his decision, he gave us multiple reasons on why the Musketeers were the right choice to him.

“The coaching staff made me feel like I was their guy from day one and it showed in July when they were the only school that was recruiting me that showed up to every single game that I played,” Goodin told NextUpRecruits. “No matter if I played good or bad, they always showed support and constantly reminded me that I am the guy that they want for the next few years as their point guard.”

Goodin has an unbelievable work ethic and it shows in his game. He rarely makes mistakes on the court and he uses his size and quickness to his advantage. He truly is the total package at the PG position and high character kid as well.

“I will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact as a freshman at Xavier and I plan to do so. It also doesn’t hurt that it is pretty close to home and my family can come and watch me play whenever they want,” Goodin said.

Perimeter shooting is one  thing that that Goodin needs to work on, and he understands what it is and he is working very hard and taking a lot of reps to improve on.  If he can get that going more consistently, then there is no doubt that the Kentucky-native can really make an impact early on in the Big East for Xavier.

The Taylor County star is definitely the front-runner for Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball award, and if he can put up the numbers that he is capable of then he will receive that honor. Many of the potential Mr. Basketball candidates were at our Kentucky Elite Exposure camp and he dominated, opening the eyes of many Kentuckians that had never seen him play before.

His play been put under the microscope by some scouts in the basketball world, but hopefully he will use that as ammo and play with a chip on his shoulder until he hears his name called at the NBA Draft after his playing days at Xavier are done.

Quentin wanted to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey of his and ended with the following statement.

“None of this would be possible without all of the people who have helped me along the way.  I want to thank all of my coaches that I have had and everyone who has believed in me,” Goodin told NextUpRecruits. “I especially want to thank my family.  My mom, dad, and little brother have always showed me the most support and they have given me the drive to want to stay grinding and be not only the best basketball player that I can, but also the best person.”
