Prep Hoops: GRIT Region Kick Off Recap

This weekend we went to Louisville, KY for the Prep Hoops GRIT region kickoff at Mid-America to check out some upcoming talent. Here are some of the players we watched that caught our eye.

Chicago Demons 2023 (17U)

2022- Lashawn Pollard 6’6 Wing (Chicago Vocational Academy (IL))

Gets to the rim very well; Makes plays off the bounce; Long and athletic; Solid defender; Really strong passing ability

Flee Club Hoops 2023 (17U)

2022- Javon Johnson 6’3 CG (Proviso East HS (IL))

Shoots it well from outside; Crafty and can make plays for himself; Plays hard and with a high motor; COMPETES at a high level; Plays physical; Can lockup on defense

2023- Joel Brown 6’8 F (Marshall Academy (IL))

Big body who moves well; Hard-nosed and physical; Hits the glass and rebounds well;      Knocked down several jumpers showing off his range; Finishes well around the rim

OTP Hoops 2023 (17U)

2022- Gavin Allen 6’10 C (Lynn Camp HS (KY))

Really good touch; Big body; Can knockdown the deep ball; Showed off a couple good     post moves; Defended the post well; Good rebounder; Uses his body

2023- Mason May 5’11 PG (Marion County HS (KY))

Quick first step; High IQ; Really good shooter; Makes plays for his teammates; Tough PG; Shifty with a good handle; Scores in a variety of ways

2023- Owen Shee 6’4 G (Eastern HS (KY))

Really good shooter; High IQ; Can put it on the floor and get to the rim; Finishes well with contact

2023- Eli Brooks 6’7 G/F (Barren County HS (KY))

Showed off his athleticism; Got a couple blocks and deflections; Has a quick shot; Really  good in a catch & shoot situation; Hit a couple shots off the bounce; Has a solid handle;       COMPETES; Really good rebounder who chases them down

2023- Jordan Blythe 6’0 PG (Frankfort HS (KY))

Shifty guard that has the ball on a string; quick first step; tough to guard one on one; extra crafty when finishing around bigs; court vision and shot creator.

Team Iowa 2023 (17U)

2023- Owen Olmstead 6’4 G/F (Linn Mar HS (IA))

Scores in a variety of ways; Crashes the glass well; Crafty and finishes through contact     well; Plays consistent; High IQ; Really solid shooter

2023- Braden Becker 6’1 G (Cr Washington (IA))

Sniper from deep; Smooth stroke; Plays hard; Active on both ends of the floor; High IQ

2024- Nathan Stroud 6’5 G/F (Mt Pleasant (IA))

SHOOTER; Has a quick release; High IQ; Sees the floor well; Showed off his athleticism

JH1 IndyElite 2023 (17U)

2023- Cameron Freeman 6’2 G (Brebeuf Jesuit HS (IN))

Got in passing lanes well; Quick & agile; Sneaky athlete; COMPETES; Active on both ends of the floor

2023- Ian Stephens 6’5 G (New Palestine HS (IN))

Tough as nails; Shooter who gets hot; Can put it on the floor and make plays; Physical      and uses his body; High IQ; Sneaky athlete

2023- Mikial Miller 6’0 PG (Cardinal Ritter (IN))

Really good PG; Can run an offense; Plays at a fast pace; Changes speed very well; Shifty; Quick first step; Finds open teammates; Explosive; Gets to the paint whenever; Solid defender; Crafty

Vision Elite 2023 (17U)

2023- Ryan Davidson 6’4 W/F (North Laurel HS (KY))

Strong & physical; High motor kid; Plays hard; Active on both ends; Showed that he is      capable of scoring from all 3 levels; Can go and get points off the bounce

2023- Hunter Barr 6’8 F (Breckenridge County HS (KY))

Moves well; Runs the floor; Long and semi-athletic; Showed off his skill set; Shoots outside jumpers well; Has a nice shot

2023- Rheyce Deboard 6’1 PG (Boyd County (KY))

Floor general; makes plays and players around him better; High IQ; tight handle; solid   perimeter jump shot.

2023- David Pfeifer 6’8 F (Trinity HS (KY))

Can defend smaller guards; Moves well; Nice build; Plays hard and with confidence; High IQ; Rebounds well; Can really shoot it from the outside

2022- Landon Elmore 6’7 W/F (Central Hardin HS (KY))

Great shooter; Can put it on the floor; Scores well from all 3 levels; Finishes well through contact; Has good size and athleticism; High IQ

Circle City Shooter 2023 (17U)

2023- Jamir Carnell 6’5 F (Ben Davis HS (IN))

Aggressive and plays with confidence; Physical and hard-nosed; High motor; Athletic;      Nice mid-range game

2023- Elijah Crockett 6’1 G (Franklin Central HS (IN))

Scored in multiple ways; Put it on the floor; Nice handles; Makes plays for himself and his teammates

Griffin Elite 2023 (17U)

2023 PG Trent Hinkle (Western HS (KY))

Heady PG with vision; Playmaker ability; got two feet in the paint whenever he wanted; finishes at a high level in transition; lockdown defender.

2023 Teagan Moore 6’4 SG (Owen County (KY))

Can score at will when he gets going; good size for position; can score off the bounce; makes shots from all over; solid defensively; a nice college prospect. 

2022- Robby Todd 6’7 F (Madison Central HS (KY))

Nice mid-range game; Can put it on the floor; Good size; Quick release on his shots

2023- Ondre Wicks Jr. 6’5 W/F (Western HS (KY))

Hard-nosed; DOG mentality; Capable outside shooter; Gets to the rim well; Can finish above the rim; Long and can defend multiple positions; High motor

2023- Gabe Dynes 7’3 C (Simon Kenton (KY))

Legit 7’3 with crazy length; if he isn’t blocking your shot, he is altering it; defenders were very bothered when driving to the basket; good low post game, but needs to keep working on offensive skill set and body.

2023 PG Anthony Lawrence (Western HS (KY)

Lightning quickness with the rock; good handles and court vision; gets coast to coast in the blink of an eye; keeps head up and finds teammates.

2023 G/F Walter Campbell (Western Hills (KY))

College ready body; grown man strength; a mismatch on the wing that can post up his defender and take advantage; defends multiple positions; would like to see him more aggressive offensively, but a good prospect to check out.

INB Elite 2023 (17U)

2023- Myles Colvin 6’5 G (Heritage Christian HS (IN))

Purdue Commit; SUPER BOUNCY; Explosive with the rock; Beautiful jumper; Can get hot  quick; Has a HIGH motor; Strong frame; Plays physical and aggressive

Hoops 4 Health 2023 (17U)

2023- Tyler Van Gorp 6’11 C (New Trier HS (IL))

Solid mid-range game; Can put it on the floor; Moves and runs the floor great; very intriguing prospect; Blocked shots and altered even more; Really solid rim protector with good upside.

2023- Xavier Sulaiman 6’3 G (Marist HS (IL))

Athletic/Explosive; Quick guard; Crafty with his finishes; Solid defender; Made some big plays

2025- Jeremiah Fears 6’0 G (Joliet West HS (IL))

Played 2 ages up and held his own; Ran the show with a lot of confidence; Knockdown from outside the perimeter; Really quick off the dribble; Showed good passing skills and good vision

2023- George Bellevue 6’6 Wing (Lincoln Way East HS (IL))

Monster on the boards; Hard-nosed; Super physical; Good defender; Strong with the rock; Athletic; High motor; Active on both ends

Vision Select 2023 (17U)

2022- Amari Wales 6’0 G (Owensboro HS (KY))

Scores in multiple ways; Showed a high motor; Played physical; Finished through contact very well; Quick and shifty; Has a NICE mid-range game

Griffin Elite 2024 (16U)

2025- Vince Dawson 6’5 G (Great Crossing HS (KY))

Versatile; Has good length; Can defend multiple positions; Slasher; Can get to the rim well; Has a nice pull up jumper; High upside; Played up and held his own

2025- Javeon Campbell 6’7 F (Western Hills HS (KY))

Nuisance in the paint; Junkyard dog that bullies opponents; Strong frame; High character kid; Played up and held his own

2024- Kaydon Custard 6’1 G (Harrison County HS (KY))

Had a double-double in the morning game; Good handle; Strong and physical; Plays hard; Solid defender; Makes the right plays

2024-SG Hudson Blank (Dixie Heights (KY))

A strong kid; shoots the ball at a high clip with a great stroke; quick release and needs little to no time to get shot off; not just a shooter, can score off the bounce as well.

EG10 2024 (16U)

2024- Jake Mossman 6’1 SG (Greenwood HS (IN))

LIGHTS OUT SHOOTER; Gets to his spots really well; Can put it on the floor; High IQ; Good floater package

2024- Mason Lewis 5’9 PG (North Central HS (IN))

VERY shifty; Quick first step; Nice vision/Good passer; Facilitator; Changes speeds and     direction great; Really good defender who can pickup 94 feet; Good floor general who        can run an offense

2024- Matthew King 6’3 CG (Hammond Central HS (IN))

High IQ; Shifty; Playmaker who scores on all 3 levels; Really nice mid-range game; Good  defender; Quick release on his shot; Can hit contested shots; Sneaky athlete who caught      a couple chase down blocks

2024- Mari Moore 6’5 F (Hammond Central HS (IN))

Hard-nosed; Physical and plays super hard; Good rebounder who uses his body very well; Plays through contact and finishes right through it; HIGH MOTOR
