WHEELING, Wv. – We were back at the Cancer Research Classic for day 2 and it was once again a day full of great teams and players. Future division 1 players of all levels went at it and we got a 2nd look at quite a few players we had not seen before this event.

DeMatha (MD) defeats Mater Dei (CA) 71-60

Roselle Catholic (NJ) defeats Norcross (GA) 66-53

ISA Andrews Osborne (OH) defeats Bishop Walsh (MD) 59-56

            Game MVP: 2022 G Jaden Clayton – 10 points, 9 assists

Top Performers:

Ethan Morton – 2020 G – Butler (PA) – Purdue Signee
There is no other way to put it: Ethan Morton is one of the best passers we’ve ever scouted in the high school game. He can truly make any pass on the court and passes equally well with both hands. He plays the role of facilitator for his HS team today and looked excellent in doing so. He can score with the jumpshot but looks the best when surrounded by shooters, which is why he will thrive in Purdue’s system. He notched the 2nd triple double in event history in his team’s early Saturday win.

Devin Carney – 2022 G – Butler (PA)
Carney came out firing from the jump and he was hitting shots from all over the floor. He is small, but finds ways to create separation and get off his shot. He scored a game high 26 points on a variety of 3s, mid range pullups, and layups in transition. He took a big jump as a sophomore and continues to trend upwards as one of the top prospects in Western PA. St. Francis (PA) was his first offer and will not be his last.

Jaden Ivey – 2020 G – La Lumiere (IN) – Purdue signee
The Purdue-bound Ivey had a much better showing on Saturday than Friday, showing why he was one of the breakout stars of this past year’s EYBL circuit. He mixed drives and jumpers, knocking down perimeter shots and showing off his athleticism on drives to the hoop. He didn’t force shots and was a big reason his team scored a blowout win over a talented Roman Catholic squad.

Isaiah Cottrell – 2020 PF – Huntington Prep (WV) – West Virginia Signee
There were times where our staff has seen him in the past and he was not at his best working in the paint, but his improvement in that area is noticeable. He has figured out the right blend of mid-post and paint touches to create the best version of himself. He was the best player in a game full of high major players and did nothing but raise his stock considerably. Cottrell will enter a potentially crowded frontcourt at West Virginia immediately, but should be able to carve out a nice role for himself because of his offensive versatility for a big man.

Richie Saunders – 2020 G/Wing – Wasatch Academy (UT) – BYU Signee
Richie enjoyed a nice game on Friday and his play rolled into Saturday where he didn’t stop shooting the cover off the ball. He’s an elite shooter and one that should fit very nicely into BYU’s system, whether it is in the fall or 2 years from now upon the completion of his morman mission. On a team full of high level shooters and passers, Saunders was able to show off his complete game.

Hunter Dickinson – 2020 C – DeMatha (MD) – Michigan Signee
There will always be questions about how this true 5 man fits into today’s game but there will never be questions about how productive he is. He is hard to stop on the block and understands his own limitations perfectly. Not many players can match his strength on the block and he can score with a variety of moves and counters on the block. Post players still are prevalent in the Big Ten and Juwan Howard should get the most out of a talented post player that is used to winning.

CJ Wilcher – 2020 SG – Roselle Catholic (NJ) – Xavier signee
After a so-so showing on Friday, CJ came out and played an excellent game against a well-coached Norcross team that is routinely one of the top programs in the talent rich state of Georgia. He is a high level shooter with a quick release. He also has a capable floor game that allows him to put it on the floor and distribute.
