2020 Justin Powell

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Kentucky has had some good high major prospects over the last few years and now there’s another no brainer in 2020 with 6’6 Point Guard Justin Powell. Powell hails from Goshen, KY and plays high school ball for North Oldham High School after spending part of his junior year at Montverde Academy. The versatile point guard showed his value this past weekend playing for Spiece Indy Heat. As expected, Nike EYBL Session 1 was loaded with some of the best talent and teams from all around the country.  Indy Heat was one of those top teams in session one. They proved this with an impressive weekend going 4-0 with wins over BABC (MA), Boo Williams (VA), All-Ohio Red (OH), and New York Lightning (NY). One of the major catalysts of this team is none other than Kentucky’s own Justin Powell.

After having a really good weekend and averaging 16 points per game, I asked Indy Heat about the addition of the Kentucky native: “Justin has come into a brand-new situation. He has done a great job getting to know his teammates quickly. The coaches and the players trust him because of that. The instant connection has led to on-court success for he and his teammates. We know that he is and his teammates will have more offers rolling in with the way that they have played”, said Indy Heat director Jared Balf.

The 6’6 guard is truly a complete player that can do a little bit of everything offensively. He’s got good size for a PG, coupled with good athleticism, tight handles, high IQ, court vision, and an is excellent passer. Powell is an unselfish player that makes everyone around him better while still getting buckets. His size and quickness gives him the ability to lock down multiple positions and he rebounds well for his position. We were impressed that he can be an impact player off the ball as well, which will be intriguing to the coaching staffs recruiting this young man.

This past week was a busy one for Powell with the University of Kentucky coming to watch him workout, a visit from Butler at his school, and in-home visits from both Xavier and Georgia Tech. Powell currently holds offers from Auburn, Xavier, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. Along with interest from Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Indiana, Syracuse, Butler, Seton Hall, Western Kentucky, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Iowa State, Creighton, and Minnesota. He will continue to play for Indy Heat throughout the summer and stay tuned to Next Up Recruits for more coverage of Justin Powell.
