GROVE CITY, OH. -- Sunday, October 29th we held our Next Up Recruits Ohio Camp. The event consisted of 120 high school prospects representing 12 different states and 3 prospects from Canada! With several prospects receiving scholarship offers during and after the event, the camp was a major success.

As follows are some of our top performers:

Darius Bazley – 2018 6’9 F – Princeton (OH)

We expected Darius to be the one of the most talented campers, as the Cincinnati native has made a rise to the 5 star rankings this spring/summer, and he did not disappoint. At a lengthy 6’9, with guard skills and a smooth jump shot, he is a coach’s dream recruit. The Syracuse commit causes problems on defense and makes offense just look too easy at times. This young man will make an immediate impact in the ACC.

Troy Lattimore – 2019 6’1 PG – Detroit Old Redford (MI)

The Detroit native is a crafty PG that seems to be way under the radar.  He was impressive at camp with his ball handling and ability to get by his man whenever he wanted. Troy can shoot the ball well from 3 with range. He carved up the defense throughout the day making play after play. Lattimore is a tough, hard-nosed kid that plays hard and can get the job done. Not sure why his recruitment hasn’t picked up yet, but surely offers will come soon.  

Taevion Kinsey – 2018 6’4 SG – Eastmoor Academy (OH)

Kinsey is one of the most athletic kids in the state of Ohio and he showed his play above the rim at camp. The shooting guard has pogo stick bounce and can score from all over. His shot looks good and he has range, along with the ability to pull up and cash out the mid-range. Once Kinsey gets into a college weight room and his body fills out, his game will be on another level. 

Chris Mayfield – 2020 6’3 SF – Hilliard Bradley (OH)

Chris was an absolute bully all day long. It seemed like every time we looked up he was getting another bucket. He has a good skill set, but is also so much stronger than the kids his age that he imposes his will and gets a basket whenever he wants. He has a nice touch on his shot and was an unselfish teammate. We would love to see Mayfield extend his shooting range, because he can really play and will be a much more interesting prospect to coaches when that time comes. 

Christian Guess – 2018 6’6 SF – Shaker Heights (OH)

Nobody goes harder on the court than the young man from Shaker Heights. Christian Guess has a lot of heart and a high motor. He’s a high major 6’6 wing that can do a variety of things and score from all 3 levels. His versatility is most impressive. Guess can play multiple positions on both ends of the floor and can comfortably defend the 1-4. Whoever recruits this kid will not regret it. The dog in him and the effort he gives are 2 things that you simply cannot teach.

Isaiah Jackson – 2020 6’8 PF – Detroit Old Redford (MI)

Jackson was one of our favorite prospects that we didn’t know much about before camp started. This young man has all the tools to be big time. He is long, athletic, skilled, and runs the floor hard every play. Watching him in the ball handling drills was impressive at his size and length to be able to handle the ball so well. He can stretch the floor and shoot it, but he will go to work in the post. A skilled post player on offense and a smart defender. Blocking and altering shots is what Isaiah does and he does it well. A ton on potential and upside with this kid. High Majors take notice.

Dominiq “Dom” Penn – 2020 6’0 PG – Dublin Coffman (OH)

Dominiq, son of Scoonie Penn, picked up an Ohio State offer 1 hour after camp, which gives you an idea of how good he is. One of the craftiest kids in the event. The quick PG has the ball on a string and can get into the paint to find open teammates when the defense breaks down. He is a high level shot from deep and has a great feel for the game. 

Treauhn Williams – 2018 6’8 PF – Reynoldsburg (OH)

Tre has really improved his body since the last time we saw him in June. The Forward has shed about 20 pounds and that is exactly what he needed. Williams was already deceptively athletic and now he is getting up even easier.  A kid that can score inside and out, he stretches the floor with his shot and range keeping defenders honest or he will make them pay with a 3 ball. He is a strong Forward with good touch. Multiple D2 offers for the kid who is a LM+ D1 talent.

Julius Brown – 2018 5’10 PG – Westerville North (OH)

Received his 1st offer from Urbana shortly after camp ended. Brown showed his quickness and nice ball handling from end to end in transition. He is a good shooter and can finish in traffic with his offhand comfortably. He shot the lights out all day at camp and if this is how he will be playing in the future then coaches should wake up and take notice fast.

JT Thor – 2021 6’8 F – Huntington Prep (WV)

This young man has a lot of potential. Thor is a long lefty that can stretches the floor and can give you good minutes on both ends. He can post up, shoots it, and he can put the ball on the floor. JT is just a freshman and has quite a bit to go with his body development and adding weight, but the skill level is there and he is a High Major prospect down in Huntington, WV. We are looking forward to seeing him develop over the next 4 years.

Peter Moses – 2019 6’11 C - Hon WC Kennedy Collegiate (CAN)

One of the best big men at camp. Ran the floor well rim to rim while finishing in transition.  Blocked and altered any shot that was around him. Has good touch in the low post and is a capable shooter form 12-15 ft. Moses is still improving his overall game, but there is a lot of upside for this junior.

Jelani Simmons – 2018 6’6 G – Beechcroft (OH)

The Youngstown State commit shined at camp. Simmons is an intriguing prospect with length, athleticism, and good ball skills.  He plays hard on both ends of the floor and scores from all 3 levels. Jelani is a nuisance on defense with active hands and defends multiple positions. YSU got a steal in Jelani Simmons. 

Ryan Webb – 2019 6’5 F - Grosse Pointe North (MI)

Webb gave a ton of effort throughout the day. Finishes at the rim in transition and can fight through contact. Rebounded well and got a lot of scrappy buckets. Seemed to always be around the ball and making a play on both ends of the floor.

Jaidon Lipscomb – 2019 6’1 G – Pickerington Central (OH)

Lipscomb is a sharpshooting combo guard with in the gym range. Jaidon continues to improve his overall offensive game, but shooting is his strong suit. Recently he has improved at getting to the basket off the dribble, which makes him tougher to guard, rather than only being labeled as a shooter. His handles need to continue to improve, along with his strength physically, but Lipscomb did his thing on Sunday and played well.

Brent Walker – 2021 6’6 F – Huber Heights Wayne (OH)

Walker has a strong frame, a physical specimen with a college ready body as a 2021. He can score in a variety of ways, whether it is bullying a defender to the basket off the dribble or posting up and going to work in the paint. We are curious to see how tall Brent ends up because that will determine a lot for his future in basketball. Regardless, he is already a solid 6’5-6’6 and is a monster on the court.

Tariq Brown – 2018 6’5 G/F – Eastmoor Academy (OH)

Brown is an athletic slashing wing that plays above the rim.  He has a college ready body and will tear the rim off in traffic or in transition.  Defensively, he can guard multiple positions and rebounds great for a wing.  His jump shot can be improved and his handles can tighten up, but we are surprised that no D1 schools have pulled the trigger on Tariq.   

Jonathan Kuminga – 2021 6’7 F – Huntington Prep (WV)

Jonathan has made his mark on the national scene over the summer.  From being an unknown prospect when he came to the states, to being labeled as a top 10 player in his respected class. Jonathan is legit 6’7 with elite athleticism and a big-time skill-set. This young man has the ability to rebound over everyone and take it coast to coast to make a play comfortably.  When his motor is running on the defensive end he is tough and blocks a lot of shots. He is a special talent that is still learning the game and how to be most effective, but as time goes on, Kuminga’s game will continue to be polished and he has a chance to be very special. 

Andre Gordon Jr. – 2019 6’1 PG – Sidney (OH)

A star on the gridiron and on the basketball court, Andre Gordon showed everyone at camp that he is a tough kid with some serious bounce. He is a 6’1 guard with good strength in his lower and upper body, which helps him absorb contact when finishing in traffic. Gordon has a good handle and creates offense for others. We are looking forward to a big junior year in Sidney, OH for Andre. 

Sincere Carry - 2018 6’1 PG – Solon

One of the most underrated PG’s in the state of Ohio. A true PG that can run a team and control the pace of the game. Carry lacks explosiveness which has hindered his recruitment, but outside of that he has it all. Handles the ball well, has court vision, high IQ, and can score the ball. He is a strong PG that can finish with contact and seems to rarely turn the ball over. Carry recently committed to West Liberty. 

Michael Bekelja – 2019 6’2 G – Solon

The Fairmont State commit was burning the nets up at camp this past Sunday. If you give him any space he will burn you from deep. He is a very unselfish guard that makes players around him better. Made quite a few plays for others off the dribble drive. A high character kid that will make an immediate impact when he gets to college. 

Cameron Brooks-Harris – 2018 6’7 F – Zanesville (OH)

The Marshall commit looked good at camp and had no problems scoring the ball. Brooks-Harris is an athletic forward with good length. The Zanesville native has a polished game and can do a little bit of everything. He is a high riser and looks to dunk on anyone when given the opportunity. Cameron has a lot of game and a bright future. He will have a successful career at the next level. 

Cameron Schroeder – 2018 6’7 PF – Westerville Central (OH)

Schroeder is a kid that gives you good size, skill, and a high IQ on the floor. He gets most of his work done in the paint and from the high post, but is very capable of knocking down the 3 ball. A good pick and pop big man that is going to run the floor, rebound, and play hard. 

Magdi Tiea – 2019 6’7 F - Hon WC Kennedy Collegiate (CAN)

Tiea was another camper with a crazy motor. It seemed that the he was always around the ball on the glass. Had a lot of rebounds and has the skills to lead a break and make something happen in transition. Magdi is a good athlete that plays above the rim and gives you a ton of effort. Plays hard on defense and caused his man problems with his active hands and his energy. 

Javon Garcia – 2019 6’2 G – Pickerington Central (OH)

An athletic combo guard that plays for Miller Factory AAU. A slasher that can get into the heart of the defense and make a play. He is primed to have a breakout season at Pickerington Central.

Brandon Rush – 2019 6’2 G – Warrensville Heights (OH)

This lefty guard made campers look silly in king of the court. He was getting to the bucket off the bounce and has a quick first step. He creates good separation to get his shot off and he is a good athlete. Rush is one of Ohio’s most underrated guards, we look for his recruitment to really pick up this season. 

Brent Darby Jr. – 2020 6’6 SF – Garfield Heights (OH)

One of the better 2020 players in the state of Ohio, Darby had a good spring/summer and continued that play at our camp.  An athletic 4 man that runs the floor well and finishes around the basket. He has a good mid-range game right now and is working to stretch his game out a bit more.

Amare Smith – 2021 6’4 G/F - Huntington HS (WV)

Smith was impressive when we first saw him at MSHTV camp. Size wise he is ahead of his class. Plays multiple positions on both ends and finishes at a high rate when attacking the basket. Uses his strength to his advantage and stays active on the glass.

Danny Young Jr. – 2022 5’10 G – Shaker Heights (OH)

The youngest camper in attendance, but you could not tell by his performance. Danny is a coaches son, holding a high IQ and he has a good feel for the game. This PG helps run his team on both ends. He is a lock-down perimeter defender and has a lot of potential and upside. 

Tae Perie – 2021 5’10 PG – St. Vincent St. Mary (OH)

Arguably one of the best 2021 players in the state of Ohio. A high level PG that can run his team and score at will. He is always looking to set his teammates up and do anything to make a winning play. We'd like to see him get stronger, but he is young and that will come over time. We are expecting Perie to have a big freshman season.

Tariq Eubanks – 2021 5’9 PG – Tapestry (NY)

Eubanks is a quick point guard with tight handles and good court vision. He gets coast to coast with no hesitation and excels in transition. He is stronger than you would think for his size and can take contact and finish among the big men.

Dale Bonner – 2018 6’3 G – Shaker Heights (OH)

Bonner caught the attention of the coaches at camp with his intensity and effort on defense. He is a scrappy defender that is a lock down on the ball. Over the last 6 months he has gained explosiveness and gets to the rack more consistently. Fairmont State commit.

Devon Grant – 2019 6’1 PG – Lorain (OH)

An entertaining guard with a lot of skill. Comfortable playing the 1 or 2 with a flashy game. Big time competitor that stays aggressive on both sides.  Loved his energy and effort at camp on defense.

Taevon Pierre-Louis – 2019 6’6 F – Lorain (OH)

A tough, physical power forward that finishes strong in the paint. Plays with a chip on his shoulder as he is a bit under the radar. He and Devon Grant will be a combo that is tough to contain this season at Lorain.

Dwight Davis Jr. – 2019 6’2 G – Bishop Loughlin Memorial (NY)

Davis made his way to Ohio from Brooklyn and he was scoring from anywhere on the court it seemed. An athletic combo guard that is strong and can get to the rack and finish. He can shoot it from anywhere. He is a well-polished basketball player that would fit lot of D1 schools. 

Gabriel O’Neal – 2018 6’6 F – Princeton (OH)

O’Neal runs the floor well and has a high motor. He is a strong finisher that crashes the glass and stays active. Offensively he stays aggressive and is efficient around the basket. We were impressed with his performance at camp. Another good 2018 kid that is under the radar. 

Josiah Mobley – 2021 5’9 PG – Reynoldsburg (OH)

A solid PG that looks to set up teammates first. Josiah is very skilled for his age and once his body develops he is going to be even better. Overall, Mobley is a solid point guard that will make smart plays and control the tempo of the game.

Lamar Landry – 2019 5’11 PG – Toledo Springfield (OH)

Landry has PG skills and is a sniper from deep. If your hand is down there is a good chance that he will splash a 3. You cannot go underneath a ball screen against him because he will make you pay every time. If he can play like he did at camp this HS season then look for his recruitment to pick up. 

Kobe Johnson – 2021 6’2 G – Canton McKinley (OH)

A good size Guard with an advanced skill set for his age. We have seen Johnson a couple of times recently and he has been at the top of his game both times. He has a good handle and is a natural scorer. There is no question that he was one of the top 2021 players at the event. 

Omar Abuhamdeh – 2021 5’9 PG – North Royalton (OH)

Omar is a floor general and a pass first type of point guard. One of the best IQ’s at the camp. Can shoot the three and the mid-range. Abuhamdeh is one of the best young guards in the state of Ohio.

Elijah Bishop – 2018 6’7 F – Beechcroft (OH)

This lengthy lefty Forward showed promise vs his opponents. He gives you a lot of energy and effort. Good defender and a solid athlete. His offensive skill-set could improve. Jump shot is capable, but still needs some work.  The forward does a lot of work in the paint on both ends.  Bishop may need a junior college, so if any jucos are looking for a good player, Bishop is the one because he will develop and get better.

Victor Mwamba – 2020 5’10 PG – Dublin Scioto (OH)

An agile guard that can score in bunches. Has a knack for finishing in traffic. Shoots it well from range and has a good pull up mid-range game, along with a nice floater. His speed with the ball helped him blow by his defenders and his handles are super tight. We are looking forward to seeing his progression in the future.

Wynston Johnson – 2019 6’4 F – Holy Name (OH)

A versatile forward that will do whatever he needs to do to help his team get a win. Does a lot of the dirty work on defense and on the glass. A glue guy that seems to make everyone around him better.

Antonio Watson – 2018 6’2 G – Newark (OH)

Watson has been at both of our Ohio camps and his game has improved vastly since seeing him from the first. Watson used to be much smaller, but is now a respectful 6’2. He used every inch of his height and length to finish on and around defenders.  He is skilled with his handle and is a good shooter. Antonio keeps getting better and we believe he will have a breakout season at Newark this year. 

Ryan Kelly – 2021 6’4 SG – St. Joes Collegiate (NY)

The Freshman from New York shot the ball from range efficiently throughout camp! Visiting West Virginia the day before camp, Kelly came into camp highly regarded and performed well during the showcase games. Keep a close eye on Ryan to have an immediate impact in high school as a freshman!

Taharan Hodge – 2019 6’2 G – Franklin (NJ)

Coming all the way from New Jersey, Taharan Hodge was the first camper in the gym and made sure we highlighted his name. A long and athletic guard, Taharan is a team player who showed he knows when to make the right plays.

Conner Maciag – 2020 6’2 PG – Pickerington Central (OH)

Maciag is a PG that has tight handles and great court vision. Conner had kids on skates all day and had a good showing on the offensive end. His shot was falling consistently and he showed that he can break a defense down and find open teammates. He just picked up his first offer from Urbana and more offers will be rolling in soon enough. A PG for coaches to keep an eye on for the future.

D’Marco Howard – 2019 6’1 G – Hamilton (OH)

One of the stronger guards at camp, D’Marco Howard brought energy and toughness from the first tip. The combo guard from Hamilton, Ohio attacked the basket and scored amongst the bigs with ease. We expect D’Marco to make noise in Southeast Ohio this season.

Collin Kimbrough – 2018 6’5 F – Worthington Christian (OH)

Kimbrough is an intriguing senior prospect that used his length extremely well at camp. Collin can score at all three levels and uses his long arms effectively on defense to create problems for the opposition.

Jerome Hunter – 2018 6’6 F – Pickerington North (OH)

It is always good to see the most talented kids playing harder than other campers. Hunter did that at our Ohio camp.  When his motor is on he gets a lot done on both ends of the floor. He dominates other wings/forwards with his ability to get into the paint off the bounce. He is versatile offensively as he can play inside out. Hunter is an Indiana commit.

Keece Brown – 2020 6’2 G – Bloom Carroll (OH)

One of the brighter personalities on the court, Markeece Brown brought his exciting game to NextUp camp! We first saw Keece a few years ago at Ty Kish’s Middle School Hoops TV Camp and knew he had a bright future. Look for Brown to score from range all season at Bloom Carroll.

Aundre Polk – 2020 6’9 F/C – Detroit Old Redford (MI)

Polk is a very long 6’9 Forward that will be a major problem when he adds some muscle and weight to his frame. Highly skilled with a consistent, good looking shot. Polk is a 4 man that can score from all over the court. He will be effective at the next level no question, but his focus for now should be to add weight and strength.  

Stephan Williams – 2018 6’7 PF – Eastmoor Academy (OH)

The big man from Eastmoor bullied opponents in the paint our entire event, using his size and strength to rip down rebounds. Williams was an impressive post prospect in both our Kentucky and Ohio camps this year. School’s who need a big man should give Stephan and his 6’7 brother Stanley a look!
