HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- For as long as anyone can remember, the state of Kentucky has been pumping out talent. There are hotbeds all over the state from which these top prospects usually come from. Hopkinsville knows a thing or two about producing really good guards. Names such as: Scotty Hopson, Anthony Hickey and Corey Wilford come to mind when thinking of the city in Western Kentucky. The next big time guard from the city looks to be a player by the name of Tray Hollowell from University Heights Academy.

The Hoptown native put up ridiculous numbers this high school season at University Heights, averaging 27 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds per game. After 8 games in AAU with the 17u Hoop Dreams (KY) he is averaging, 12 points, 4 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Tray is a 6’2 point guard that can not only run a team and facilitate, but can also get you points in bunches.  He is an athletic guard that can get into the paint whenever he wants thanks to his college ready build. His strength is evident when he takes contact at the rim and is able to finish through it.

The athletic guard has a good-looking jump shot and can knock down the 3-ball with deep range. He is a solid defender with good lateral quickness and rebounds very well for a guard.

During the last few weeks, Hollowell has been able to show coaches and scouts alike that he is a true PG, something that was questioned earlier. He reads the floor extremely well and his assist to turnover ratio is excellent.  He has proven the doubters wrong with his play in the Adidas Gauntlet Gold. 

Hollowell’s recruitment has really picked up after performing well in the Adidas Gold Division events in the first LIVE period of April. He reportedly now holds offers from Missouri, St. Louis, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, and Samford. He has also been hearing from schools such as: Western Kentucky, Murray State, Indiana, Xavier, and Notre Dame.

It’s only a matter of time before high-major programs offer Hollowell after checking him out this summer. He’s not only a really good basketball player, but a high character kid off of the court as well. He will finish up this AAU season with 17u Hoop Dreams out of Lexington, KY as many coaches will have his games circled on their schedules.
