ATLANTA, Ga. -- Ashton Hagans established himself as one of the best 2019 point guards in the country with a strong freshman season at Newton HS (GA) in which his team finished with a record of 26-5 and a state final 4 appearance.  Ashton told me that he loved the experience of playing in the final four and thought it allowed him to get some valuable experience.

Our staff had the chance to see him at the Norman Parker Showcase 2 weekends again and we came away impressed, to say the least. This strong and heady point guard is elite when it comes to getting into the paint and has a great feel for the game. He passes the ball extremely well with both hands and his basketball IQ is high, which he shows when making plays for his teammates. Going to the rim is his bread and butter

When talking about his game, Ashton said, “I really feel like I just need to work on my jumper and that’s it. That’s how I’m going to get better.” The young man tells the truth, as when he gets the jumpshot where he wants it, it will allow him to take his game to another level. He also went on to say, “I try to model my game after John Wall. I see some of myself in him.”

He is already receiving interest from major colleges, in fact having an offer from Georgia on the table already. Along with that offer he is receiving interest from Wake Forest, Miami, Tennessee, Ohio State, Mississippi State, Radford, and Georgia Southern. He will only continue to gain steam on the recruiting trail as he gets older and more coaches get the chance to see this young man.

Playing with the Georgia Stars has been big for him on and off the court. “The coaches treat me really well and I enjoy being a part of the program. Norman Parker really looks out for me and my family.”

Chris Williams, his AAU coach with the 15U Georgia Stars, had this to say about him: “He's hands down one of the best true PGs in the country that thrives off making his teammates better and very passionate about defense. He will be a top PG in his class when it's all said and done.”

Look for Ashton to continue to get noticed and establish himself as one of 2019’s premier point guards and a top 30-type player in the nation.
