We spent the weekend at one of the nation's best events

FTTH 2016

KETTERING, Oh. -- Half of our staff spent the weekend at one of the best events in the nation, the Good Samaritan Flyin' to the Hoop in basketball-crazed Dayton, Ohio. The format for the most part is 23 games of "Ohio vs Everybody" showing off the state's best teams against some of the best players from around the nation. We saw everything from crazy buzzer beaters to sick dunks and awesome crowds in a fun filled weekend. Eric Horstman, Steve Huebner, and the staff do a fantastic job taking care of guys like us too.

Here's who stood out to us, among the countless great performances this past weekend:

Josh Jackson - 2016 SG - Prolific Prep (CA)
Who’s the number 1 player in 2016? Right now we lean towards Josh but it really depends on the day. If you would have asked us this weekend, it was a no-brainer to say Josh. He literally did whatever he wanted on the court against a talented La Lumiere team, scoring 31 points in a loss. He is an elite level athlete that has tightened up his handle and can score in every way going to the rim. His jumpshot can be streaky but he can do anything else you want on the court. He is starting to trim his list down and it seems that Arizona, Kansas, and Michigan State have the edge on the field. Don't even get us started on the buzzer beater he hit on Saturday.

Seth Towns - 2016 F - Northland (OH) - Harvard Signee
Seth is an incredibly versatile scorer that did whatever he wanted against Greenville to the tune of 40 points, including 22 in the first half. He hit shots from all over the court and showed off an advanced offensive game. He is easily one of the best scorers in Ohio and played one of the best games we have seen out of him in a long time. He is part of a big time class that should result in immediate wins added at Harvard.

Miles Bridges – 2016 SF – Huntington Prep (WV) – Michigan State Signee
Miles has been trending upwards all season and that didn’t change at FTTH 2016. He is a power wing with great passing skills that is always in attack mode. He brought the house down on Saturday night with a NASTY in-game alley oop windmill. He was named a McDonald’s All-American on Sunday night after his game and has looked like a top 5 player in American all year.

Jarron Cumberland – 2016 SG – Wilmington (OH) – Cincinnati Signee
Jarron started slow but finished with a big 24 points today on the way to a HUGE comeback win over Walnut Ridge of Columbus. He is just too strong at the high school level for opposing defenses and is a scorer supreme. He is one of the toughest dudes we have seen at the high school level and his support is among the best in Ohio.

Nick Ward - 2016 PF/C - Gahanna Lincoln (OH) - Michigan State Signee
Nick is the baddest dude on the block in the state of Ohio and maybe the country. The future Michigan State Spartan is nasty and isn’t afraid to take it to anyone. He scored 24 points on a variety of post ups and dunks and showed off why he’s going to be a tough matchup under Tom Izzo and part of a Michigan State state team that should be really good in 2016-17. If there's a clubhouse leader for "best fit," Nick to Michigan State should definitely be up there.

Frankie Hughes - 2016 SG - Garfield Heights (OH) - Louisville Signee
Although his team didn’t get the win, Frankie was the best we’ve seen him in a long time on Sunday. He was on fire from deep and showed a great ability to get to the rim and finish. He tallied 17 points and kept Garfield Heights in the game with a talented Huntington Prep team for about 3.5 quarters. The Louisville Cardinals made a wise move picking up Frankie and he should be a good player there under Rick Pitino.

Terrance Ferguson - 2016 SG - API (TX) - Alabama Commit
We’ve been watching TFerg since the beginning of his HS career and there’s something about FTTH that makes him turn it up. Right after he finished his pre-game dunk show on Saturday, he was hitting 30 footers off the bounce and showed an ability to put the ball on the deck and score that we had not seen in forever. He’s signed to Alabama and should be the first big time player to play for Avery Johnson during his tenure as head coach.

Alterique Gilbert - 2016 PG - Miller Grove (GA) - UConn Signee
Gilbert is probably the best sub-6 foot guard we’ve covered in HS basketball since Kentucky star Tyler Ulis. He is incredibly explosive and can fill it up with ease. He was fantastic on Monday in a lackluster game, getting buckets on whoever guarded him and threw down a nasty 2 handed dunk on the break. HE was named a McDonald’s All American on Sunday night and his play Monday backed up that lofty status.

Eli Wright - 2016 SG - 22 Ft. Academy (SC) - Mississippi State Signee
The Mississippi State commit has had a big senior season after transferring in from Kentucky. His outside shot wasn’t falling today but no one could stop him from getting to the rim, he scored almost everything at the rim and was unstoppable off the bounce. When he lets the game come to him, He threw down some sick dunks on the break today and finished with 23 points.

Trevon Duval - 2017 PG - API (TX)
It’s somewhat comical just how easy the game comes to Trevon this year. He can penetrate the defense at will and his jumpshot is much improved from the summer. He had 30 points on a variety of drives and finishes around the rim. API is significantly better with him on the court and Pickerington Central built a huge lead that erased by Duval turning up in the second half on their way to a 78-72 win.

Ibi Watson - 2016 SG - Pickerington Central (OH) - Michigan Commit
There were questions about Ibi’s commitment to Michigan back in July, but since that moment he has erased all questions and never looked back. His jumpshot is one of the purest in high school basketball right now and he brings it each and every night. He will need to continue to bulk up and add to his overall offensive game but it looks like Ibi will have a great college career under John Beilein at Michigan.
