The Owensboro star is taking his talents to Huntington Prep for his junior year

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The state of Kentucky has lost some good talent to transfers, with three kids heading to prep schools from the Bluegrass State.  You can now add another one to the list, as 2017 6-foot-8 wing Trace Young has told us that he will be transferring from Apollo to Huntington Prep for the remainder of his high school career.

“This is a big move in my life and in the end I think that Coach (Arkell) Bruce will bring the best out in me and will help me reach the goals that I have set for my future,” Young told NextUpRecruits on Thursday. “I have no doubts in making this decision.”

Young is now a part of a very strong Huntington Prep squad that finished 32-3 last season, culminating with a run to the semifinals of the Dick’s Nationals Tournament.

“(Huntington Prep) has some of the best players in the country on their roster and I will improve my game by being battle tested every day in practices and workouts,” Young told NextUpRecruits. “I am excited to meet my new team and be the best teammate that I can be, along with doing my best to contribute to bringing a national title back to the program.”

Young has some of the most upside and potential of any kid in the 2017 Kentucky class. The 6-foot-8 Owensboro, Kentucky native is as versatile as they come on the offensive end, and has great length and athleticism, along with a good-looking stroke from the perimeter. The lefty can put it on the floor, but will need to continue to develop and polish his game in order to be the best player that he can become, and he feels that he can do that at Huntington Prep.

Making this move will boost Young in a variety of ways. He will get to face elite competition every day in practice and will play a loaded national schedule. We feel that if he buys into this process that by his senior year he will be a top-50 player in the country and after his senior year he will be receiving McDonald’s All-American votes. We truly believe that Trace Young has all of the tools to be an elite player at the next level and potentially play in the NBA.

“Huntington Prep has had a lot of talented kids at their school and multiple NBA players,” Young said. “I want to be a part of something like that and try to add my name to that list of NBA players.”

The talented lefty has offers from Western Kentucky, Samford, Wright State, Cleveland State, DePaul, USC, Morehead State, Murray State, UMass, South Florida, and Virginia Tech. Along with interest from multiple high-majors such as West Virginia,, Ohio State, Louisville, and Florida among others.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity and I plan to make the most of it, while making my teammates better in the process,” Young said.
