A lot of buzz has been going on around the name Gehrig Normand this Spring, as he has been steadily boosting his stock every weekend. The 6-foot-5 class of 2023 Guard resides just outside of Dallas, Texas where he attends Birdville High School in The Hills, Texas. He has been playing AAU with 3D Empire and will continue to run with them throughout the entire summer. Like a lot of basketball players, Gehrig said that he grew up watching basketball on all levels and was always around the game. NextUpHayden caught up with the rising star to see how his recruitment has been going lately.

Normand talks recruiting process

Since he has become such a trending topic lately, he told me, “It has been a crazy process overall just because it has all been coming so fast. My phone has been going off nonstop from different coaches and different media outlets.” As he has continued to shine this Spring, his name has started to quickly spread around. He said, “It’s been fun getting to talk and build relationships with a lot of these different coaches. I have been going out there every weekend just trying to have fun on the court and not worry about offers or rankings, I just let them come.”

Decision Making Process

“Right now, I have offers from UTRGVRiceOral RobertsTulsaNew Mexico StateKansas StateMissouriTennesseeWyomingSMUTexasDrakeTCUXavier, & Colorado State” Normand said. “TexasTCUTennesseeXavier, & SMU have been talking to me the most.” Gehrig has only visited Texas & SMU unofficially since they are both so close to home for him. He is currently working on setting up visits at Tennessee and Xavier. For the time being, he plans to stay focused on working hard and to start narrowing down his list of schools this summer, hoping to decide around August.

Evaluation:

“Gehrig is one of the best perimeter shooters in the country. Off the ball, he has a quick shot set up and release. He has a tremendous knack for putting the ball on the floor and making plays. He’s a crafty athlete who plays super tough and gets to his spots well off the dribble. His confidence has started to skyrocket the more he has been playing at a high level.” - @NextUpRecruits Hayden Shelton, National Recruiting Analyst
